I changed my sandstone texture a long time ago. Loong time ago. I am playing 1.7.10 with forge 10.13.2.1291
(I also have a profile for forge 10.13.4.1481-1.7.10) I don't recall why.
Anyhow....
I haven't played Minecraft for a few months, but recently went back to it, and discovered a weird funky thing:
All my walls of sandstone have reverted back to the original texture, except for the top row, which is my custom texture.
If I destroy a sandstone block, the sandstone block below it becomes the default texture. ie if a sandstone block is on the top, it is the custom texture, and if it has another sandstone on top, it is the default texture. They are not affected by any other block, and this weirdness does not occur on blocks other than sandstone.
Questions arise: 1. Where is is getting this old texture from? 2. Why did this happen? 3. How can I fix it? and 3a. How can I exploit this? (ie now that I know this can happen, I might decide it is a feature, rather than a bug, and use it to my advantage.)
I do not like the original default texture, which is why I changed it. Anyone know how to fix it?

Do you have Optifine or MCPatcher installed? If you have the former, go into the video options and disable connected textures (which I believe is under "Details..."), which should fix your problem. Connected textures are determined by the texture pack for most blocks, but sandstone and glass have a texture built in to Optifine and MCPatcher which allows for connected textures without a texture pack.

Wah.
WOOHOO!!!!
Yes, Optifine's connected textures was the culprit.
Thanks for that - you saved me a whole lot of angst.
May all your mines be filled with diamonds, and may creepers never darken your door.
