Recently when trying to play Minecraft after several months of not playing (haven't played since sometime in 1.8) I logged in and my world immediately crashed. I then received a pop up message saying that Java Platform SE binary has stopped working followed by this in the Minecraft screen:

[21:06:21] [Server thread/WARN]: Can't keep up! Did the system time change, or is the server overloaded? Running 2438ms behind, skipping 48 tick(s)
This happens in single player mode. I've done some research and found several people who have had this issue logging into servers but found nothing on single player. I tried a few basic things like starting a new world, turning render distance to minimum, uninstalling then reinstalling but the issue still persists. It even does it if I try to load a world in an older version. I have no idea what I need to do. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I've been having the exact same problem. Tried to fix it with the vanilla tekkit pack but that crashed before even loading up the game (Modded packs don't work either). I doing a bit of digging into the tekkit stuff just in case the two cases are linked, so if I find anything I'll report back.

Okay, found a solution. I don't know why this works, but it does. (Before I start this MIGHT work, it's not definite)
Steps:
1. close Minecraft if it's open and right click on it's launcher
2. Open properties.
3. In properties open the compatibility tab
4. Tick the compatibility box and set the box to whatever system you are running (for you it'd be windows 8)
5. Change the settings for all users (Basically the same as step 4 but doing it too all the users)
6. Apply changes and run Minecraft
I just want to say that this worked for me but I don't know enough about computers to say why it worked. Also, this method doesn't stop the crashing but makes the game a hell of a lot more stable (for me, tabbing out of the game would cause it to crash. May be different for you)
I hope this solves the problem. I'm still looking for a solution for Tekkit though it may still be connected.
(After some testing)
I was wrong. This works, but only temporarily. I've tested it a few times and it still seems to be crashing for the same reasons as before.

I gave it a shot anyway just to see if maybe things would be different for me (hey, you never know) and it worked for a few minutes but not long. I really do appreciate you coming back and updating me. Thanks
A mate of mine figured out a possible cause to the problem: Some mucked up coding(?) in the 1.9 update which effect so little people it went unnoticed and moved into update 1.10.
I reccomend just playing 1.8.9 or lower since none of those versions share that coding... It's not ideal, but I'll try get in contact with the game's developers. God knows why it effected no one but us...
Actually, what kind of Computer do you have? That might be why...
I take back what I said about coding. After about a solid day of research I have officially found the problem: It's our drivers. They aren't updated enough.
Sadly, we can't update them. Laptops tend to have custom made drivers, or drivers with custom features on them. These features make it impossible to update the drivers by using the driver's updater.
I'm not sure why that first thing I suggested worked for a few minutes. I guess without it your laptop's CPU will overload and crash the game before the game crashes your laptop. Just a guess.
In conclusion: you can find a way to manually change your driver, which I don't recommend, or you never play Minecraft 1.9 and up on it. Your choice.
Thanks for the updates I appreciate it and apologies for letting it go so long before I replied, I got disheartened and let it slip aside while I filled my time with other things. Anyway, when this issue first occurred I tried running older versions (as far back as 1.1 I think) and none of it worked. I would be okay with playing an older version til I can get a better computer, but even that didn't work. My initial investigation found couple of mentions of driver issues but I had hoped that wasn't it. Apparently it is. That sucks
