The problem is, I don't know which email I had on my old account. I know for a fact my username (Smitty_McFly), and password though because I can use those to log in on the launcher.
For example, the first thing it suggests to in changing my email, is to migrate my account! But I can't do that without the original email.
I have tried making a fresh Mojang account without minecraft purchased to see if I could link it to my original account and in a way attack it from a different angle. But I see no way of doing this.
It would be so helpful if someone could just look at the email on my account, and TELL me what it is. I see no security risk in this as I already know the password.
PS: I would have posted this in the Mojang Account/Minecraft.net Support forum, but it looks like that's not possible, and it's just a link to more useless information.
Contact Support and provide the email address registered to your Mojang account and your transaction ID
No knowledge of the old email address required (only the address on your new mojang account). But you must have the transaction ID to demonstrate that you own the account.
You have to prove that the account is yours before changing the email address, since it is the email address that is used by the real account owner to recover the account.
This gets me in an endless loop though. That tansaction ID would be on that old email. If not, deleted. The account was a gift to me several years ago.

EDIT: I have found the way to link the account after a Mojang account has been created here: https://account.mojang.com/migrate/import
But I'm still required to provide the original email.
"Changing" the email is exactly that. Your email address was X, now it is Y. You have to know both the old and the new.
At the bottom is the section you want:

Already done. Just thought I'd see if I can get an easier fix.
