i have owned minecraft for many years and never had this issue. i completely remove it from my entire system and reinstall it and when i try to open it i get
MinecraftLauncher.exe - Application Error
The Application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005). Click OK to close the application.
i do have the latest Java update, Java 8 Update 101

Post your system specs,and make sure that some firewall/antivirus isn't blocking Java.
