I have been trying to connect to Minecraft the last couple days on my brothers account, but the game will not launch from the 1.6.61 launcher. After entering email and password, the following message shows up:
The last time the launcher worked was a couple months ago.
I did a bit of searching and tried using the old launcher from https://www.minecraft.net/en/download/alternative. This allows the game to boot up; however worlds cannot be joined in any version above 1.8.9. In 1.8.9 and below, the world loads fine and servers can be joined. When trying to join a 1.9 or greater world, the game gets struck at "Loading World Building Terrain". After a couple seconds, the application freezes and gets a "Not responding" message and the game has to close.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Minecraft, deleting the .minecraft folder, updating Java, and letting Minecraft and Java through the firewall.

Wait maybe im misunderstanding. You are trying to load 1.9+ worlds with version 1.6? I have always used alternative launchers for the game, but in my understanding, doing what you are trying is bound to cause errors. Can you not update to the newest launcher? Try a third party/cracked launcher. If you have purchased the game, I don't think running a cracked launcher is against any rules, someone correct me if Im wrong though.

Computer is running Windows 8.1.
