I was playing my minecraft world and my power went out. It came back on after a few minutes. I try to get back onto my world and it's not showing in the minecraft world list. I checked the saves folder and it's still there. I compared it's contents to another save and found that the one I want doesn't have a "level.dat_mcr" file. Is this why it's not showing?? Any help to recover my world would be greatly appreciated!! (This was my favorite world with all my epic builds. ;(

The issue is not with level.dat_mcr, which is not even used by the game and is only there in case you converted your world from an older format and want to roll back (as the Wiki says, "A backup of the level.dat file before conversion from MCRegion to Anvil.". For some reason it is also created when you create a new world, at least up to 1.8, but is never used; they may have removed it from 1.9 or 1.10 since I don't see it simply disappearing from a power outage if it is never being updated).
The real issue is that level.dat is corrupted - one thing you can try doing is renaming level.dat_old* to level.dat, replacing the original, which may restore your world (there could still be corrupted chunks, which would require further work using repair utilities). Be sure to make a backup of the world before doing this, just to ensure it is as intact as possible if further repairs are needed. Note that some repair guides tell you to replace level.dat with one from a new world but do not do that - it will change your world's seed and spawn point (unless you remembered the seed and used it in the new world) and wipe your inventory.
If there are still issues after you try this (or the second option if you know the seed and don't mind losing your inventory. If it is a Superflat world only the generator options really matter) you can get more help in this thread:
*The Wiki erroneously claims that this is a backup from conversion from the early Alpha level format but in fact it is a backup of level.dat from the last time it was modified; the timestamps of the two files are generally within a minute of each other.

Thanks for the info. I will try these. I do back up this world semi-regularly. But it's not always up to date with my latest designs. I'd just finished a moderately complex redstone machine, hence my panic. Again, thank you for the info.

Update: I've tried to copy the save, but "r.-2.0.mca" could not be read from source file or disk. I assume this is the corrupted file. It is error 0x8007045D.
If you have a backup you can check it to see if you've built anything within the range X = -1024 to -512 and Z = 0 to 511, which are the coordinates stored within the region file r.-2.0.mca, and if you have not or know that you didn't add anything since the last backup you can try replacing the corrupted file with a backup.
Also, did renaming level.dat_old work? Corrupted region files would not cause the save not show up; you'd only see any problem after trying to load the world (Minecraft would either crash or regenerate the region file). You could also do the same thing mentioned above for level.dat; is your world a Survival or Creative world? If the latter restoring a backup of level.dat shouldn't be an issue (your inventory will be reset to the earlier date).

Need for sleep and schedule has kept me busy. I just replaced the level.dat file. It took a bit to load, but I zoomed around and found all my builds intact except for the machine I'd just built. (I built everything a good distance from each other) Three chunks were replaced with a new seed (I assume these chunks, which were the only things I edited on that night, didn't save). I managed to repair the machine. My inventory was the same. Thank you for the help.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
