So this problem has been going on for about a month now and Minecraft support told me they could not help me.
So one day I turned off my computer for the night. I turned it on in the morning and tried to open Minecraft, but it would not open.
I would click the grass block and the crafting table would pop up for literally a tenth of a second before disappearing again. It would not actually launch.
It did this all day and the next day I emailed Minecraft support. However, that evening Minecraft launched as if nothing was wrong. The grass block did bounce up and down a bit longer than it normally does, but it launched eventually.
It now does this every single time I close Minecraft. So if I need to change my version, or I need to restart Minecraft for whatever reason, I'm doomed basically. It is no longer an entire day that I have to wait anymore. But it tends to be five hours at minimum.
A few days later, Minecraft support answered my email, saying that it was only for account and login problems. They suggested that I ask the question on a forum, so I came here. Personally, I think that it was rather unprofessional of Minecraft that they wanted me to ask random people on a forum rather than their official help email, but that's besides the point here.
I was not using any sort of modded client when this happened. I use a Macbook Air if that helps.
Finally, while I have not tried reinstalling Minecraft yet, I would like to use that as a last resort if at all possible. However if it's the only option then I guess I'll do it (it's just that it is a bit difficult for me to back up worlds).

Curse PremiumTry opening minecraft from other tabs as paths on desktop icon can become broken.
or
I suggest reinstalling java and minecraft from scratch. As this should work.
Personally never owned a Mac so dealing with these problems on that platform can be hard as it's a unknown platform by many who are on PC.
