Recently I have been trying to get the shader mod to work. I am able to download the mod and optifine. When I get a shader pack and place it in the shaderpacks folder, it shows up but doesn't look as it does in some screenshots I've seen.(It also makes my whole computer super laggy) I have other mods and I don't know if its that or I'm just doing something wrong(which is probably the case) but I really want to work.
To expand on BradBrock said, you should be getting at least 200FPS before attemping to use shaders. Also, if you don't have a dedicated GPU your chances of using shaders are slim-to-none.
Not necessarily. For higher end shaders, I would recommend at least 200fps, but for lite shaders, 100fps will generally do. It depends on what shaderpack OP chooses. Though back to his issue, I'm guessing integrated graphics, and thus having rendering issues.
Well, it also depends on if you're okay with 30 FPS but more importantly what resolution you will be playing at.
First things first, you only need optifine; no additional mods are required.
How long has the shader mod been included in optifine? My impression this was fairly recently. So if he was trying to run an older version he would still need the mod. Not meaning to nitpick.

Optifine integrated with Shaders is a fairly new feature IIRC, only 1.8+

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
First, try reloading your graphic drivers.Always nice to start with.
Then, what are your GPU specs(graphic card)? You should have an okay one to use shaders.
Also how exactly do the shaders look? Are certain things black?Out of texture?Invisible? Are animations bugged or non-existent?
Some of these problems can't be fixed...Sorry
