I was going to try to post this on the Pixelmon forums, but they're utter **** and won't let me even register... so I thought I'd try posting it here.
I went to the forge website and downloaded / installed Forge 1.8.9, then went to pixelmon and downloaded what I believe to be a compatible version of pixelmon (4.2.6 for Minecraft 1.8.9). I tried launching, but it came up with an error... so I deleted Meta-INF, and this came up the next time I launched.
I'm on a Mac, btw.
Edit: I can get to the white background with the black mojang symbol in the foreground, but it will crash right there. I have no other mods installed on forge, so it has to be something wrong with pixelmon?
When I don't have META-INF:

In the log without meta-inf, it looks like that somehow prevented Forge from detecting that you had extracted the jar file into a subfolder of the mods folder, but the lack of .jar extension in the parentheses in the listed mods indicates you still did, and that's a bad idea. You should leave it as a jar file in the mods folder, and then you shouldn't need to delete meta-inf.
Also, it looks like you didn't get far enough for it to become a problem, but Pixelmon for 1.8.9 tends to need more than just 1 gigabyte of ram allocated to Minecraft. Try 2 to 2.5 gigabytes (provided your system has enough for that to be safe).

Thank you Mauve, that seemed to do the trick

I edited the original post to make it more friendly, as well as added the entire reports. Didn't know I had cut out a bit.
