My minecraft has been working fine, although today I set it up and it wasnt loading. After I click "play" on the launcher is gets stuck on "Preparing" "Loading" or "Downloading" I've tried forcing an update and reinstalling Java. Any help?
I'm having the same issue on a Mac. It did an update after the initial login, then when it went to launch the game it froze on 'Preparing'. I've tried Java updates and rebooting the entire machine. Debated a complete reinstall until I saw others having the same issue.
I'm running on a mac, and the same thing is happening to me. I have tried updating Java, uninstalling and reinstalling Minecraft, nothing is working. I'm going to try to go back to an earlier version of the launcher. I have also tried restarting my computer and deleting all my profiles in the launcher.
I'm going to leave my minecraft launcher open for the day while it's loading the game and see if you just need to wait a really long time for it to open.

Had this problem with the new launcher, so I tried playing minecraft with Curse launcher and it works. Try to get the old launcher or just play through curse until the new launcher is fixed.
Updates java, updated MacOS, completely deleted and reinstalled MC. I've tested in on my brothers computer and it worked perfectly, the solution for now is to simply play minecraft for Technic Launcher, as that works just the same
