Hello, newbie here.
For a couple of months now I've been trying to launch the 1.3.1 version of the game (I think it's the oldest version where custom player skins still work, if I'm wrong please correct me) and it has not successfully launched the game a single time. I've tried to launch newer versions and while I don't get the same error it still will not launch at all. I've tried uninstalling the game, uninstalling Java, reinstalling both, and checking to make sure Java is updated. I have a hunch it might be my machine, as an older computer that I still own was able to run the same version with no issues.
I select my profile, choose the 1.3.1 version, click Play, and then the launcher displays this error message under Game Output:
SEVERE: Unable to launch java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: net.minecraft.client.Minecraft at net.minecraft.launchwrapper.LaunchClassLoader.findClass(LaunchClassLoader.java:179) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:424) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:357) at java.lang.Class.forName0(Native Method) at java.lang.Class.forName(Class.java:344) at net.minecraft.launchwrapper.Launch.launch(Launch.java:53) at net.minecraft.launchwrapper.Launch.main(Launch.java:18) Caused by: java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\Users\Username (The system cannot find the file specified) at java.util.zip.ZipFile.open(Native Method) at java.util.zip.ZipFile.<init>(ZipFile.java:220) at java.util.zip.ZipFile.<init>(ZipFile.java:150) at java.util.jar.JarFile.<init>(JarFile.java:166) at java.util.jar.JarFile.<init>(JarFile.java:103) at sun.net.www.protocol.jar.URLJarFile.<init>(URLJarFile.java:93) at sun.net.www.protocol.jar.URLJarFile.getJarFile(URLJarFile.java:69) at sun.net.www.protocol.jar.JarFileFactory.get(JarFileFactory.java:94) at sun.net.www.protocol.jar.JarURLConnection.connect(JarURLConnection.java:122) at sun.net.www.protocol.jar.JarURLConnection.getInputStream(JarURLConnection.java:150) at java.net.URL.openStream(URL.java:1038) at net.minecraft.launchwrapper.LaunchClassLoader.getClassBytes(LaunchClassLoader.java:351) at net.minecraft.launchwrapper.LaunchClassLoader.findClass(LaunchClassLoader.java:165) ... 6 more
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM warning: Using incremental CMS is deprecated and will likely be removed in a future release
I'm not entirely sure what all of this means, but I can make out "Caused by...system cannot find the file specified." I've been playing since 2012 and I've never had any issue launching the game on previous computers. This might seem like an easy issue for most to point out and fix, but I'm not gifted in computer language so it just looks like gibberish to me. Any help at all is most appreciated!
