I was playing on a custom modpack server when my computer suddenly shut down.
I had not saved the server within the last hour or so. When I turned my computer back on
I quickly made a backup and tried running the server. Now, Forge detected that there was an
error with the world. After doing what the console told me to do, all of the world data (including
player data) became missing.
I decided to look into the level.dat files and playerdata files using a plain text editor. At first,
both were empty. However, after switching the world file from my desktop to my laptop,
the level.dat file became uncorrupt and I recovered the world back. But not the inventories...
The strange thing is that those blank .dat files were taking up a reasonable amount of
data even no data appeared to be inside of them. For example, when the level.dat file was
blank, it took up 36 KB (which is about average compared to my other worlds). Obviously,
there must have been some data in there, but data that does not show up in a plain text editor.
The exact problem I had with level.dat persists with all of the 4 inventory files that I need to
recover. How can I solve this issue?
Do you think it had anything to do with forge itself?
um hi
