I just bought a new custom built gaming pc (about 2 weeks ago) and while playing minecraft it randomly lags extremely bad. The lagging is so bad I can't even play the game. The lagging causes me to become stuck and can't move which is similar to the lagging you get when you're playing on a multilayer server like 'mineplex'. I'm not playing on any multiplayer servers currently and It's still extremely lagging. I've tried setting the graphics to low and using optifine but it did not help. The weird thing is the lagging comes and goes randomly, so I can play minecraft without any lag for about an hour then the lagging will start, then after a while when I go back onto minecraft the lagging is gone, then it'll start lagging after a few minutes? I don't understand why it's doing this since my computer is meant to be really powerful.

Some basic info about my pc:

processor: intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700 CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.40GHz

ram: 16 gigabytes

system type: 64 bit Operating System, x64-based processor

I've also downloaded java 64 bit.

Try to turn of the VSync since this limits the FPS to 60.

I've tried setting the vsync off but the problem's still there unfortunately. I've checked my minecraft game and it says that it's using more than a hundred FPS which means it shouldn't be lagging as bad as what I'm experiencing. I don't understand because I had a cheap laptop I used to play on and it was not as near laggy as this one?

All right, I will guide you then. Click the "My Computer", then "Local Disk C:", then "Windows", then "System32", then "dxdiag.exe". If you did it, you made it. Post the log of the DxDiag if you run it.

I've went into task manager and there are a lot of background applications but most of them use 0%, a few use only 0.1% cpu. However while checking the video settings in minecraft there is an option to turn on/off vsync. I've just turned it off, I'll see if the problem is still there.

When you downloaded java 64 bit, this does not necessarily mean, than Minecraft is using the latest version you downloaded. Especially, when you use the "New Launcher", it uses its own version of Java. When editing your profile, you can choose, which Java you want to use by specifying the path to the Java executable.

From my experience, Windows 10 PC lag more often than Windows 7 and I believe, this is due to some background cleanup tasks together with some antivirus tools slowing down Disk IO ang enerating a lot of wait fpr your CPUs. Most likely, your Minecraft logs will show some warning about ticks missing and "Can't keep up" etc.

Keeping an eye on the task manager and the IO stats might give you a hint, whats going on.

Download HWMonitor and check your temperatures. I had a similar experience earlier and it ended up being a faulty fan, causing my CPU to overheat. The fact that the lag goes away after some time is a definite sign of overheating.

Windows 8 wouldn't affect anything, and your specs are more than enough to run MC without issues.

Also do you have issues in any other games? Or just Minecraft?
