So today I was going to get back into minecraft and I didn't have it on my computer so I downloaded it. Immediately, Avast popped up in the bottom corner and said it was a virus. Idk what to do, so if anyone can help that would be great.
avast is pretty much the only AV that isn't an issue with minecraft, all the paid ones will cause minecraft issues, avast is the one we suggest here and on the irc support channel.
and if avast was so bad then how come there are only a couple cases of false positives on minecraft out of the many many many users of both (myself included)

It would be the false positive and that your MinecraftInstaller.msi is harmless in reality. Try adding it to the exclusion list.
And this is why AVAST Is the worst! You should uograde antiviruses cause avast gives false warnings
