I've been having a bit of a problem with my minecraft for a very long time now, across multiple versions, even. Basically anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours, Minecraft would stop responding. However, when it DOES happen, I can't find any way to get rid of Minecraft. I've even tried to use Task Manager to End Task, End Process, and End Process Tree to force it closed, but to no avail (I should also note that the process tends to use up huge amounts of physical memory). Nothing short of force-restarting/shutting down would get rid of it, but for obvious reasons I would like to find a less harmful solution.
I HAVE tried googling this, but I couldn't find anybody with the same problem.
During this, I never actually get to see any sort of crash log, it just goes to 'Not Responding' and never changes or closes.
Sounds like your computer is haunted, I suggest a spatula and an exorcist.
In all seriousness, what do you define as huge amounts of physical memory?
For me...
With just the launcher open, it uses about 190-200mb of ram. Not too much.
When starting up, the launcher process uses about 218mb and MC itself, sitting on the main menu, uses about 600-700 mb. Again, not too much unless you have 1-2gb of ram. (It may use less for you. I have 16gb total, so i have a feeling it is allocating more to those processes that need it)
How much ram total do you have? It may simply be running out

EDIT: Yes, I have tried to wait this out.
