I am able to ping servers from my command prompt without issue, however I cannot connect to them through the Minecraft client. The error I receive is:
java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: no further information:
I've tried:
Opening port 25565 through my router and my firewall
Enabling incoming connections from Minecraft and Java through my firewall
Uninstalling and reinstalling Minecraft completely
Resetting my router's settings to factory and port forwarding again
This problem arose when I switched to an Apple AirPort Extreme router. I have a Dell Inspiron laptop, and I am running Windows 8. Any suggestions are much appreciated.
UPDATE: I am also unable to connect to servers when I connect directly with an ethernet cable.

Is the server you are connecting updated to 1.9, just to confirm if this is your issue or not.
Yes. I've got several servers (popular and unpopular) in my directory to make sure that it's not an issue with a specific version or server.
