I need to download optifine and I have been having a lot of trouble. Like I said, I run Linux mint, so I have been having a hard time finding tutorials that work on my computer. I have tried to get forge but java will never let it run because it thinks its dangerous. On all of the tutorials with out it it requires you to put things in the .bin folder in minecraft, but I don't have one/ I cant find it . I really need help
depends on what file manager you use. you probably talk of nautilus or one of its forks, but thunar for example doesn't have that checkbox
Well I was talking about the file manager used by most Linux Mint forks (Nemo, fork of Nautilus) as it directly pertained to the OP's situation and is simpler (especially for inexperienced users) than the command line method. It's unlikely the OP is using Mint XFCE (only version to use Thunar by default), far more likely there using Cinnamon or Gnome which both use Nemo as the file manager.

Curse Premiumyou can consider files safe if they are from optifine.net
i guess that the jar is not marked as executable. to achieve this, open a terminal window and type
sudo chmod a+x /PATH/TO/MY/FILE.jar
enter your password and you should be good to go
Or just right click the .jar, select properties then permissions and click the box labeled " Allow executing of file as program".

Thanks everyone! I got it working
