Hi, I'm an Australian user and I have been playing Minecraft since late 2010.
Only in the last 4 or 5 months have I ran into an issue regarding ping/latency/ms.
Some days, I would just be playing on a server, when suddenly everything begins to delay a little bit, and it gets worse and worse until it is literally unplayable. I will be using the server "BadLion" for example. Usually, on the Australian Badlion Proxy server, I get about 30ms. After the "ping bomb" attacks, my ping goes up to 300+. This is on an Australian server, hosted very close to my area. But on American servers such as Hypixel and Mineplex, my ping goes from the usual 220ms up to 1000+! I don't use any mods other than Optifine (and I know 100% this isn't the issue) and this lag occurrence is happening on every version of Minecraft (I only play on 1.7/1.8 though).
I am bringing up this issue only now because it has gotten significantly worse in the past few days. I don't even get a chance to play at all, I just start my game and every single server has unbelievable ping, (Australian servers: 400+ ping. Any other servers: 700-1500 ping.) and maybe if I am lucky, later that day it would go back to usual! (AU Servers: 20-50 ping. Any others: 150-250 ping.)
I want to bring this problem some light because Minecraft is a rather pricey game that I payed for, therefore, I expect to be able to play it.
If you need any other information regarding this problem, I am more than happy to tell you.

Try restarting the modem.
