So a friend and I have Minecraft on USB's and play it while we are at school, on a LAN server. This only happens to me, but sometimes when I break a block, the game will crash, but my friend will be completely fine. This even happens when I play from the USB at my house on my overly expensive gaming desktop. It could be the USB's fault but I wanted to make a thread just to see if anyone has the same problem.
What operating system are the PCs using? Some operating systems shut off devices to save power, including external drives. The operating system most likely turns off your USB drive while you are playing, resulting in the crash.
