I made a minecraft world about a year ago and used it alot so it had lots of crap I build in it like castles and tunnels and stuff. I haven't played in a while and went back in today but mostly all that stuff was missing. There was a few random blocks I know I put down that remained but most of everything was gone. Why is this and is there anything I can do to restore it? It's on 1.9.2 now but I checked out a few older versions and found nothing. Help please, I really don't want to lose my world.

Thats because the new world generation, you should have updated that world one version at the time

Maybe you used older version of the map you open which was first opened by the latest version.
Is there anything I can do? Can i just slowly update it then?

If the map is already wasted, then no, blocks wont re-generate.
Sorry pal, but there is no solution to this unless you got a world backup
