I put Minecraft on my granddaughter's Dell D-810 laptop. Only 2Gb RAM, but it runs Minecraft just fine until she finishes playing, and selects "Save and Quit to Title". Then, the laptop freezes and she has to power down to recover the laptop. Then when she logs back in, the world she was playing is gone.
what you could try as temporary fix: start minecraft, play in the world. before you close minecraft. go into your .minecraft folder (location depends on your OS, so you have to google it if you dont know where to find it), copy the entire saves folder to any folder you like, close/shutdown minecraft or reboot completely. then copy the (backup) saves folder back to its original location in .minecraft.
