Somehow, I tried to download Minecraft (I already have an account) and when I tried to open the launcher, it just says "Unable to download Minecraft. Please try again later." Then, after some minutes, I went back to open the launcher, it said the same thing.
Also a problem I encountered before the top problem is that I couldn't download 1.9 in the launcher. My profile said, "Ready to download and play 1.9.2". So, I clicked "Play". Then, the play button becomes "Preparing" and after about 2-5 seconds it reverts to the Play button again, this time when I click it, it does nothing.

Try reinstalling the launcher.
If that does not work make a copy of important files in .minecraft such as saves, mods and resource packs
and delete .minecraft and reinstall.
Tried reinstalling the launcher from the Minecraft website, however, the same message pops up.
Then, where will I place it and what will I do with those important files when I reinstall Minecraft?
