So I got Windows 10 a couple of months ago. The day after, minecraft stopped working. I tried and tried to figure out what was wrong. I found out tonight that I can't play on Windows 10. Why is this? Is there any way to fix it? What's the deal with Windows 10 Beta? Can I play on online servers such as cube craft or hypixel? What should I do to be able to play minecraft? I've literally tried everything.
Original Minecraft works just fine on Windows 10 - The Windows 10 Beta was basically pocket edition. If you have a legit copy of Minecraft purchased, you should be able to play with no issues.
What do you see happening? What errors are you getting? Are you using modded minecraft or straight vanilla? What type of computer is it?
I am using straight Minecraft on a custom built quad core. I haven't had any issues with Minecraft in the past. It happened as soon as I got Windows 10. The errors I'm getting are as seen in the image.
Did you upgrade to Windows 10 and do you get the error message "pixel format not accelerated"? If so this is because Win 10 doesn't support your graphics hardware, Microsoft dropped all support for legacy hardware with Win 10. To fix it you can either replace your GPU (unless you're using a laptop), revert back to the version of Windows you where using, or if neither is an option you can switch to a Linux OS.

Make sure you have admin access, then navigate to "C:\Users\Owner\appdata\roaming". Right-click the ".minecraft" folder. Click the checkbox next to "read-only" so that it is empty. Hit "OK". try launching minecraft now.

Based on what the others said, and based off of the errors you are getting, your Graphics Chip is unsupported on Windows 10, or your files have become read-only. I am also surprised that it didn't give you warnings about the incompatibility issues about your graphics card before installing Windows 10, probably because it forcibly installed it on your PC like it did to millions of people out there.
Your best bet is to wipe Windows 10 completely and install Linux(after backing up all of your important data), as the option to downgrade has been removed from the OS and going back to Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 requires purchasing another Product Key.
Why I am recommending this solution? Minecraft runs a little better on Linux, so you might see some improvements in performance. Also, this issue with the game files being read-only can be solved A LOT easier on linux, considering that you can run applications as the root user, which has no restrictions.
You never even got to see the exact reason for the error (read-only? being accessed by another program? denied access?). You're also assuming quite a lot there. Additionally, Windows 10 is only installed on the computer if you opt for it to be installed, and you can still downgrade for free for at least a month after the installation.
And where exactly from this discussion you got the idea the OP's PC is using obsolete, unsupported hardware?
Some other person said that their hardware was unsupported, that's where I got the idea from. Also, I experienced the same issue as soon as my older PC was upgraded to W10, the read-only error. I will quote them if you want.

I did see the exact reason for the error. I made my response based off of what another person said and what I saw. And your statement about Windows 10 being installed only if you want to is completely invalid. there have been SEVERAL cases of the new operating system automatically installing without the user's permission. A quick google search for "Windows 10 Forced Install" will yield lots of results.
Also, the OP said that she upgraded her PC MONTHS ago, so the option to rollback is gone on his/her end. Because of that, she/he will need to either install a Linux-based OS, or buy another edition of W7.

I'd never "said" the OP's hardware was unsupported merely asked if they'd seen a certain error message (common with Win 10) and explained what it meant if they had, their wording gave little to go on. I wrote that prior to seeing the error message the OP posted which clearly states whats causing the issue, they got the upper hand on me by 1 min.

What you saw was a generic 'access denied'. that generic error can be cause by MULTIPLE more specific problems. Therefore, you DID NOT see the specific error.

Windows 10 must first be DOWNLOADED to be installed. for that to happen, you need to have agreed to the DOWNLOAD (the little 'get windows ten' thing that asks for email address is the part where you agree to the download)
Windows 10 was and is downloading automatically without the user's permission. It has been CONFIRMED by Microsoft themselves that Windows 10 will download automatically, and will soon begin installing automatically because they are changing it to a "Recommended" update, which most Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 users have set to automatically download and install. Windows 10 forced installs are a reality, and have been proven and reported multiple times, so you need to face the fact that it is happening and is not a myth or lie.

You are only allocating 256MB to Minecraft?
Cast aside your festive doylaks: dragon stuff is about to happen.
