I've been racking my head on the same problem that dozens of you have seemed to post about for the past couple YEARS. I've been researching and testing so many different theories for the past month.
I have a 980ti and a 5820k. Overkill for Minecraft. I've seen and have been told by dozens of others with 970's and 960's that they get 60+fps with Ultra shaders. I knew it could be done, but it was not happening. I went through and turned off every setting in the Nvidia Control Panel but nothing changed.
I found that turning Threaded Optimization to AUTO brought shaders from 35fps to 130fps+ when using ANY shader.
I hope this helps anyone else that might have the same problem in the future. You CAN play with shaders AND have a silky smooth experience!
