I would like to play 1.2.5 to play older CTM maps, however whenever I try to I get this error-

Can minecraft just not run 1.2.5 anymore? This doesn't make any sense to me. My client isn't modded in any way.
Do you use Mac? That could be your problem, because they won't let you play a version older than 1.6.1 due to the new launcher and the no right-click crafting feature.

4 years ago, I started played MCPE/Minecraft in general. Now, I have MCPC, and I'm still not bored of the blocky sandbox indie. Cuz awesomeness! Got a problem with that?
Do you use Mac? That could be your problem, because they won't let you play a version older than 1.6.1 due to the new launcher and the no right-click crafting feature.

You probably have an option set that is not legal for that version.
You should create a different game directory for profiles configured to use different versions of minecraft in order to avoid such problems.
I've figured out that its something in my saves folder that causes the crash. As I'd rather not go through all of my saves one by one, how do I create a completely different install of minecraft, purely for 1.2.5? I'd rather not have to move my saves folder in and out all the time, however I can't find a guide on this anywhere.

Curse PremiumTry 1.3.1. 1.2.5 maps should work there.
Honestly any version older than 1.7 should work.

I'm not sure then. Maybe it has a link to the theory I just speculated, but in your case, I'm not truly sure.
You could try going onto Mojang Support, but they might not support you because it's an outdated version.
