So my favorite server updated to 1.9 yesterday, and ever since then I have been having a very annoying issue: When I try to hit skeletons, creepers, or zombies with a sword (not spam-clicking), they rarely take damage (spiders don't have this issue). Maybe once every ten times I hit them they will take damage. Shields also do nothing for protection, but I do not have this issue in single player 1.9. I know it's not my fault, since in single player I am able to kill hostile mobs without issue. What's even worse is that, rather than firing arrows one at a time, a skeleton will take about a minute then suddenly I get blasted with a lot of arrows, dying instantly. I know it's not the server or the computer that's the issue, as this happens on all servers and on all my computers in Multiplayer. I never had this issue in 1.8 or any earlier versions. Any ideas on how to fix it?
It must be a Server error or either you are on a area that is protected Against Harming mobs.

Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world — "No, you move
Unfortunately your server may have been a bit premature about updating. Single player is playable, however there are still some issues to be resolved that could seriously impact server gameplay.
For example as the entity count rises, fps drops significantly faster than in 1.8. The theory is that this is due to entity collision checks, even for entity's that don't have collision. Additionally, mob pathfinding lag while much improved over the snapshots, still seems to contribute more to fps loss than in 1.8.
I'm certain it will get better over time as they work to fix issues, but who knows how long that may take.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
It's not on just one server, it's on all of them.
