Hey everyone! I've got quite a conundrum here that's making Minecraft just about unplayable for me, and there's a bunch of facets to it. Skip to the bottom for the TL;DR, but I'm gonna list every possible factor here. Mods are somewhat involved, but this problem happens without them installed, and seems to be specific to 1.9. Screenshot of my F3 further below. Also, sorry if this is the wrong place for this, feel free to point me in the right direction if that's the case.
So, up until yesterday, I've been running a 1.7.10 modded server with something like 20 mods installed, none of which have ever given me any technical trouble or lag that I could not resolve, which I've been pretty happy about. I've always gotten a consistent 60 FPS on my low-traffic 1.7.10 server, which I had up for over a year. Now that the 1.9 modding community is picking up steam, however, the co-owner and I thought it would be nice to not only upgrade to 1.9, but start on a cheaper host with the same amount of memory.
I got both my client and server suited up with the newest Forge Beta for 1.9, along with a single mod, Biomes 'O' Plenty (Optifine, Xaero's Minimap, and Better Foliage as well clientside). Upon entering the server, I got 60 FPS and no problems loading the modded world, and placing/breaking blocks was fine, and as was the case with the co-owner. Here's where stuff gets weird, however. Mobs were freezing up all over the place, for up to 30 seconds at a time, while I was still getting 60 FPS and no problems with chunk updates. From there it's what you would expect, being at full health one second, and murdered by an immobile zombie the next. At one point, a spider attacked me while it was immobile from my end, and it somehow hit me so many times that it knocked me into the air on flat ground and i died of height damage; my friend said it looked like I had been shot up into the air from getting hit so many subsequent times. On top of this, it was taking over a minute to respawn, and to load the world on relogs.
Of course, I immediately went through every conventional course of action to minimize lag: fiddle with Optifine, eliminate all client-side mods, verify that the problem was happening on other Vanilla servers, check my internet, check that the problem wasn't happening in 1.7.10, fiddle allocate more, default, and less RAM, make sure my FPS and Chunk Loading were normal across the board, and I even booted Minecraft in identical conditions on both PC and Mac (my iMac boots both). None of this affected my problem.
So, here's what I've narrowed down:
-It is seemingly unrelated to FPS or Chunk Loading.
-My internet connection is fine, even with a heavily modded 1.7.10 server.
-The problem is totally isolated with 1.9 servers (no problem in multiplayer).
-The mods I have and amount of mods have no effect on the problem, and the problem still occurs in Vanilla.
-The lag only affects mobs, items, world downloading, crafting table GUI, and respwaning.
-The problem is NOT isolated to Mac or PC software (hardware is Mac, however).
-This is not a RAM issue, as far as I can tell.
-The problem occurs on other 1.9 servers besides my own, but does not affect my co-owner, who is only 2 hours away.
I'll post this to FTB as well, but yeah, I'm totally stumped, and haven't found anyone with a similar problem before. I'll update if I find something out. Honestly, I hope there's just something simple and stupid I'm overlooking at this point.
TL;DR I've got heavy lag that only affects respawning, mobs, world downloading, and GUI in 1.9, and is not affected by my internet, OS, or RAM.
As the co-owner mentioned in the post I'd like to see this addressed as well. I'll to point out that I've been running 1.9 with a couple of mods myself on the same server without any issues whatsoever, so that should solidify the fact that the host is not the issue. I also recall kaBoMBer mentioning his ping being 40ms or so - awfully low for everything acting how it was.
Oh, so interesting incident(I'm not sure how helpful this will be, but it seemed very odd so it MAY be notable): the spider attack mentioned in the OP was just strange. I'm fairly certain I saw everything in real time whereas he was being lagged horribly. I killed the spider that was attacking him, and a few seconds after its death, kaBoMBer flew into the air and died from fall damage, of all things - all of this on level ground, no other hostile mobs nearby. From what I could tell, everything else was running normally. It's just... odd for things to all seem normal serverside and then have just one player be affected by a glitch.
Although, I dunno. That may be irrelevant, and I probably didn't explain it very well. Ignore it if need be.
Also, I've flipped shovel textures for Tinker's Construct and ExtraTiC for a more realistic-looking animation, check here: http://www.minecraft...hovel-textures/
Which version of Forge are you running? I don't have specific numbers on me, but I know that updating Forge made kaBoMBer's problem substantially better.

It seems like you are getting server (bad connection) lag. Maybe the server has poor bandwidth or slow components?
I don't think it was the server - low ping, no block lag, I had no similar lag issues, etc.

Here is my F3 on my server, with Optifine, BoP, Better Foliage, and Xaero's minimap running.

I am getting the same thing, I just loaded a fresh copy of windows 10 yesterday, loaded forge 1.9 with one mod and getting bad lag and rubber banding.

Curse PremiumIt seems like you are getting server (bad connection) lag. Maybe the server has poor bandwidth or slow components?

Silly Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/RavbugAnimations
upgraded and not as bad but still lots of lag, ran fine when I has it has a unix server headless,
AMD Athlon 64bit dual core 1.9ghz with 4 gigs of ram
it is an older PC but should be ok for a local minecraft server
I don't think it was the server - low ping, no block lag, I had no similar lag issues, etc.
