I have been have a lot of problems, starting yesterday (3/29/2016), and today.
First some info:
I am running Windows 10 Alienware laptop, so RAM / Disk space is not an issue. I am running Minecraft 1.9. It has been running fine, until last night, for the last 3 months.
Last night MC crashed while I was playing. I tried restarting in both Multiplayer and Singleplayer and got the same Minecraft Launcher error. I included the error below. I can provide the error log C:\Users\phillip\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\hs_err_pid15944.log if anyone thinks it will help diagnose this problem.
A message popped up saying I needed a Java Update. I was running Java 1.8.0_73-b02, so I let it update to 1.8.0_77
I was still getting the error. So I used a restore point, on my Windows, to got back to 3/20/2016. That put me back on Java 1.8.0_73 and it was working again last night. However, this morning it started doing it again, but I checked and I am still on Java 1.8.0_73-b02
Their was a Windows update KB3140741 that got downloaded on 3/29 as well. I can try to roll that back to see if it makes a difference.

After some troubleshooting, I discovered this problem was only happening after I allowed the most recent Windows 10 update (3/29/2016) KB3140741 to be installed.
Once I rolled that update out of my PC, it all started working again.
A Google search revealed that this recent Win10 update has caused a lot of problems to many people even those not running Minecraft.
Thanks webrosc for the link.
