So I bought minecraft last Thursday and I have been playing it to death and so the problem is coming when I try to join a server (the vox populi server to be exact.) whenever I enter the server address and attempted to connect to the server I get this error popping up at me. "java.net.connectexception connection refused no further information minecraft" Any help on how to fix this would be wonderful I have spent the last hour trying to find help and nothing has been useful.
have you considered that you shouldn't be using IP addresses ? Some big servers are multiple machines and have many IP addresses. At any given time some of them can be out of service. If a server has a hostname you should use that.
ok, well then its possible that your computer has cached a hostname to IP mapping that is no longer working. Cached entries should automatically expire, but sometimes weird things happen.
You can flush your cache and get a current mapping by using the command:
To clear your DNS cache if you use Windows , perform the following steps:
Click Start.
Enter cmd in the Start menu search text box.
Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator.

Hi,
Is this problem occurring when you join other servers? Try joining us.mineplex.com and see if you can connect. It may just be a server side issue.
Thanks,

Alright this happens rather strangely. I playing last night and it had been working but then again today I tried and I got the error
"Java.net.ConnectException" Connection Timed Out: No Further Info"
No other error and all servers I try to join have this error. But it only happens sometimes which is what is really upsetting.

Check if your computer is able to connect to the IP.
If you are on Windows, then press the Windows key + R
Then type "cmd" and press enter (without quotes for all of this stuff)
In the black box, type in "ping ip". Replace "ip" with the IP of the server.
I am sorry I put the wrong thing I was not connecting with an IP but rather the server address thing. Sorry

So far it seems to be working but I am not sure if it will stay working. I hope all of this did.
