Copy pasting this from the modded client version cause it's a problem in both vanilla and modded, and nobody there has given me an answer.
I'm honestly at a complete loss. I'm getting the error "Connection timed out: No further information:"
I've googled it and everything has turned up "it's your firewall" and "I'm having this issue too!" but I've checked my firewall and I have no reason to believe that's the problem. It's allowed through Windows Firewall, it's allowed through my router's firewall. I even went into advanced settings with Windows Firewall and tried opening the ports that way and still nothing.
I didn't have this problem until I tried to play recently. A few friends and I set up a small private server a few months ago and played on that for a bit and it worked fine, along with connecting to one of their servers. That was a vanilla server. This issue popped up while trying to connect with a technic mod pack. I went back to try and connect to random vanilla servers and got the same error.
I have no idea what the issue could possibly be. I've checked the firewalls, tried making sure Java was up to date, reinstalled Java, restarted the router, and nothing is working.
I had uploaded a pastebin of the log of trying to connect to a random public server on vanilla, if it'll be of any help.http://pastebin.com/ZbrvBFWs
There's something wrong with your DNS name resolution.
The IP address you are getting isn't in the list of addresses that I get, and it isn't pingable, whereas the "real" addresses are.
That IP address might be a server in the server pool that is currently down.
If you have put an entry for us.mineplex.com into your hosts file, it is now stale.
Otherwise your DNS cache might just be old and stale. You might try flushing it.
How do I flush DNS?
To open a command prompt, click Start, point to All programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command prompt. The ipconfig /flushdns command provides you with a means to flush and reset the contents of the DNS client resolver cache.

I also tried to just straight up entirely disable my firewall (both Windows and my router's) and that still didn't fix it.

That got it I think! I was able to connect to the server I've been actually /trying/ to connect to.
