So, I made another thread earlier in the month about my sound and character skins not working. I have a fix for the character skins now and the first time around the sound issue magically fixed itself so I don't really know what happened. I'm back to having absolutely no sound in the game at all, even in the menu. The game output log has a bunch of lines that say

"[14:45:23] [Client thread/WARN]: Missing sound for event: minecraft:ambient.cave" and etc.

Below is my launcher log. I only posted the first section of it because frankly trying to copy-paste the entire thing was a bit ridiculous. The rest of the log has pretty much the same thing as the bottom portion of this log section for tons upon tons more lines. So hopefully this is enough information to go on. If I need to post more information then please tell me and I will. Thank you in advance.

This is the same problem as you had before, but now it is affecting the launcher. You can't fix the JVM parameters as easily for the launcher.

Open Notepad and create a file containing the following:

set JVM_ARGS=-Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true

minecraft.exe

Save this file (change the "Save as type" box to show "All Files" first) to the same place as minecraft.exe on your computer, but save it as "minecraft.bat"

Then try double clicking minecraft.bat instead of minecraft.exe when you want to launch.

I'm still getting the same error lines in the log, the sound still isn't working.

yeah, sorry. I'm running some experiments and it looks like minecraft.exe scrubs the environment before launching the java application.

This is a little bit harder.

Edit that bat file so that it contains something like

"c:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\javaw.exe" -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true -jar minecraft.exe
PAUSE

You'll need the quotes around the path to java, and you'll have to figure out where your java is on your computer and use that path instead of my example path.

The PAUSE command will make the command window that pops up hang around until you type a space into it, that way you can read any errors that might happen, e.g. if you have a typo

Is that in addition to what's already in the .bat file or do I replace what's in the file entirely? I don't want to just start changing stuff without knowing exactly what to do

alright well I did that and now the launcher won't come up at all after I close it out. In the command window it's saying that the path "is not recognized as internal or external command, operable program or batch file." Is there a step I'm missing here?

yes I did, but actually I just figured out apparently there's a whole bunch of Java stuff in multiple places on my computer (one is in my "program files" and the javaw.exe file and a bunch of other java executables are in my program files (x86) It really doesn't make any sense because I'm pretty sure I uninstalled all the previous versions of java I had. How do i know which one i'm supposed to link it all to? I already tried changing the path in the .bat file to the application in the x86 path.

It shouldn't matter too much which one you use for the launcher.

everything has to be just right in the BAT file in order not to have a syntax error.

are you sure you have no incorrect spaces inside the quotes and then a space after the quotes and between each subsequent argument.

also, minecraft.exe is in that same directory?

I fixed that, and now the command window gives me "Error: Invalid or corrupt jarfile minecraft.exe"

Okay so I just made this account to try and help you in a way. I had this same exact problem after updating my minecraft to the latest version, I played the game and after a while I noticed no sounds were being produced. I struggled for 2 days looking for ways to download the sound files but I found nothing. Until one day I said okay you know what I don't really play on single player so I'm going to delete minecraft completely. I deleted minecraft and the %appdata% file .minecraft as well. I emptied my recycle bin and redownloaded Minecraft from the minecraft.net website again. Signed in and boom my sounds were back yes my worlds were deleted but since i had a server i did't really care. So that is what I did and I got my sounds back. BUT now the problem is my skin doesn't load at all. I went into a multiplayer lobby and everyone is steve or alex I think my file is missing or something i deleted and redownloaded minecraft several times yet nothing happened. If anyone else has this problem and knows how to fix it help a bro out

That's the sledge hammer approach, and since you didn't understand your issue that's why your skins are still problematic.

This op's problem is at least slightly different from yours.

Shmadam, I'm sure that this latest issue is down to us having different versions of the launcher on our two systems. I have a much older launcher...

Go to minecraft.net follow the download link, click on the "All platforms" link, then download the jar from the Linux section.

Save it to the same folder as the minecraft.exe and minecraft.bat and then change the bat from having minecraft.exe in it to having minecraft.jar in it.

Hopefully this time it will work.

Great. This launcher may not auto-update (not sure), and it's possible this problem will eventually go away "all by itself" (haha).

Just try and remember that you've made these little adjustments in case they cause problems down the road.

At the end of the day the problem is related to your computer & Java & minecraft (possibly ISP) and the way each of them is handling (or failing to handle) some IPv6 configuration on your computer/network.

These changes make your minecraft stick to just using IPv4 and avoiding IPv6 at all costs.

Ok cool. I'll have to keep that in mind for the future.
