I seams to work, I get a world with the old name, but when I start it, nothing has changed. It is still the same as the one created during the recovering tutorial. Did I miss something?
I also tried with a profile with version 1.8.9, exactly the same result. I spaw at the same place than while creating an empty world.
I haven't copied directory (I did cp restore/level.dat restore/level.dat_old restore/session.lock saved/)

that tutorial only helps you if you world has a damaged level.dat file
All the other files have to be intact. If they are not there, then minecraft has to generate new chunks and they will be brand new, not the same.
If you reinstalled your computer I'm going to assume that you wiped the disk. Your save is gone unless you made a backup before that.
thanks for the point. Yes, I stored my saves directory on an usb key before reinstalling.
Ritter_Kaldor tries to fix the saved data.I will post back here in case it doesn't work.
