OK, so this is a weird one, and I may be completely wrong. Recently I've started to get crashes (program closes, no error logs or messages) or the common "x-ray" graphic lighting glitch where everything goes black, and you can see through the ground, etc. The thing is, I hadn't added any mods or anything in over a YEAR, and the problem just surfaced out of the blue. I'm on a Win 7 system using Optifine, and running MC 1.8.0. I updated all my graphics drivers and it had no effect. My world doesn't appear to glitching otherwise.
I had been fooling around with a resource pack, making some of my own textures. I had combined a few texture packs and added some of my own textures, which in the past has never given any problems. Since that was the only change I made recently, I deleted the packs and the problem went away. Adding my modified texpack brought the problem back.
So I then tested by only adding the blocks, and leaving out the animated PNGs. Sure enough, it worked fine. Adding in the PNGs (for lava, water, portal and sea lantern) seems to trigger the problem.
I did modify the animation PNG graphics, but am using stock mcmeta files.
Is it possible that's causing the problem? I frankly don't think so, but can't seem to find any other source of the issue.
