Hello, I'm new to the forums here, mainly because I've never had a problem this bad. As far as i can tell no one else has had this same problem in the forums. Ever since I updated to 1.9, I have not been able to see mine, or anyone else's character skins, but they can see mine just fine. And also There are absolutely no sounds coming from Minecraft at all, even in earlier versions. I have tried everything from messing with my computer's sound settings and Minecraft's sound settings to re-installing Minecraft several times. My friends that I was playing with said this might be a client issue and I just have to wait around for a fix, but quite honestly, I'd rather not just sit around. I really just would like some solutions or explanations to these problems, if there are any. If it is a client issue (and I'm not totally sure what that means) like my friends said, then fine. If not then what do I do to fix these?
Thank you in advance anyone to anyone for helping.
I've never heard of anything like this before. You say this problem arose when you updated to Minecraft 1.9, correct?
The first time I played 1.9 Minecraft started without sound, but it hasn't happened since. Back in 1.8 it happened all the time, but only when I used OptiFine.
As for your skin problem, that's even more strange. It happened to me twice at Mineplex a long time ago when my internet was unacceptably bad, but never since then.
It may not make a difference, but you could try re-downloading Minecraft 1.9. If that doesn't work, I have no other advice than to re-install Minecraft entirely. To re-download 1.9, go to your "AppData" folder, navigate to ".minecraft", open "versions" and delete "1.9". Next time you start the launcher you can re-download it.
And if you re-install Minecraft, do some research on what information needs to be backed up. I've never had to re-install it, so I don't know if you may need to save any special files.
Well I tried all that but now I have a different problem. The launcher downloaded 1.9 again but it's been trying to launch for like the past 5 minutes. Either Minecraft is just a mess for me or I'm just being impatient
Got the sound working finally, after re-installing a few times. I still can't see anyone's character skins though. Oh well, at least now I can hear the creepers before they blow me to oblivion lol
I have too come across the same problem, except it's where my skins' cover thingy (second layer) does not show up in-game. I have attempted to re-upload my skin on Minecraft.net and even gone to options but this doesn't work. If anyone knows how to fix it, that would be great, thanks.
In your case FailVurse, I think you might have just chosen the wrong character model for uploading your skin. If your skin has second layers and stuff like that (like mine does) then you want the "Alex" model, not the "Steve" one.
As for the server I'm on, it really shouldn't be a problem, I'm on my friends' realm server and we usually talk over Skype anyway. Like I said, they can see my skin but I can't see anyone's skin. I was playing solo on the server just now and that's the session I got that line of text from.
Hopefully this is what you're looking for (and then some probably :P)

There used to be multiple causes for this. The IPv6 one is probably not relevant anymore.
================
This can be caused by malware called "Relevant Knowledge" which you should remove if you have it. <= most likely
Another cause can be if your Java is trying to use IPv6 when it
shouldn't in which case you can add "-Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true" to
your JVM arguments in your profile.
Some people claim that a winsock reset fixes this problem as well.
could you tell me how you did this? Because i'm having the same problem with the white launching screen, no player skins, and no sound in 1.10 specifically.
I'm having the same problem, It started at 1.9 release and now its 1.10.2. This is getting really annoying and I can only see skins if I go to 1.8.9 but some servers don't support that anymore... I've re-installed mc, made a new mc folder, deleted versions, made new profiles, and checked my computer for viruses. What do I do now..?

Ad blockers sometime block the skin downloads to your machine.
Without them you can't see them.
That sounds weird. I'm pretty sure I'm not running any ad blockers though, unless that's McAfee's doing.

Do you see anything the might be considered anomalous in the game output log related to skins?
It would probably help to be on a server with only a few other players so that there isn't a ton of chat traffic confusing things.
I did find this in the output log. But I really don't know coding and scripting stuff so I have no idea if this is what you're looking for

Does it matter where I stick that into the JVM arguments or can I just copy-paste that anywhere into the text box?

ModeratorMcafee is known to cause issues with minecraft, the only fix known is a complete removal of Mcafee
Nevermind, I tried adding the thing to my JVM arguments and now everything works perfectly. Thank you for the help Gerbil

OMG GERBIL ILYSM THANK YOU <3 4 MNTHS OF NO SKINS AND FINALLY ILY ILY ILY
You need to have a space in between each parameter, i.e. between M and - should be a space.
Note that this fix is for one issue with skins/sounds, there are other reasons why they might not appear.
