So I'm having issues playing minecraft 1.9 on both singleplayer and multiplayer. Every time I try joining a server or creating a new world in 1.9, my minecraft will close and give me a crash report. something about windows not being compatible? Is anyone else having this problem or know whats going on?

Same things happen to me. New update works with Windows 7, but seems not with 8 or later.
Thats EXACTLY whats happening to me. It said something about not being compatible with my version of Windows, but my friends have Windows 10 also and it works fine for them.
I am having this same problem on minecraft 1.9. I have an Alienware 15 with Windows 10 and it still doesn't work. I have been searching for answers and I'll let you know when I find one. Sorry your having this problem to.

I don't have any problems with it. Maybe you should post the crash report or log or whatever it is, so someone (not me) can help you on your case.
That error looks like a video card related error. Does your PC have a an actual video card or does it only have integrated video? If you have an actual video card make sure that the computer is actually using it to run minecraft. If your card is Nvidia see the post by OcAMD in this thread:

Otherwise, try updating your video drivers if possible and try turning on VBO's in minecraft video options.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..

Turn VBOs and VSync on in the MC video options.
