In versions 1.8 and 1.9 there is a thing that happens to my client. I'll be playing and one day these weird multicolored beams will appear out of nowhere and make it nearly impossible to play. As far as I know, there's no real way to fix it. Any tips? Thanks.

An example is attached.
That's a problem with your video driver.
You can look for a driver update (not via Windows Update or Device Manager).
And / or try changing your video settings in Minecraft to see if there is a setting that makes this unlikely to happen.
How would I find a driver update if not through those means?
determine what your GPU is. dxdiag works for this.
Then go to intel.com amd.com or nvidia.com depending upon who makes it and navigate to the driver download page.
"Auto-detect" functions often don't so use the dxdiag info to manually select the driver from the web site.
As far as I can find, there's no available updates. Integrated GPU, intel card, WDDM 2.0, Toshiba Computer. HALP
I can't help you if you don't post the dxdiag log.
