As of the launch of the new release, I haven't been able to load the game. Here's my launcher text, all I did was click "play".

As far as I know, the launcher is supposed to update itself. I've tried restarting several times. Any ideas? The only things I could find from Google were reports related to cracked clients, but I don't use any cracks, mods, or resource packs. I don't even play multiplayer.

The current launcher is 1.6.51
Before the log that you pasted there should flash up the bootstrap log which looks more like this:
Except yours should find an update. I suspect that it is failing and generating an error or warning here.
That seemed to do it. Weird, no idea why my launcher couldn't update itself.
