I just got a Samsung 120GB 850 evo SSD and installed it in my gaming PC with a GTX 770 gfx card, running windows 8.1. I've had Minecraft and have been modding it for a year or two but really can't figure this one out. I downloaded the launcher off of Minecraft.net and ran it in my SSD(drive key A:) on the version I want to mod it on, being 1.7.2, changed the directory to "A:\Minecraft", allocated 6GB RAM, and downloaded and played it. I then installed the latest version of Forge 1.7.2 *http://files.minecraftforge.net/maven/net/minecraftforge/forge/index_1.7.2.html* and tried to install client to the MC directory. It said something like "the directory is missing a launcher profile" but I went to C:\Users\_\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft and moved everything to the SSD, and forge downloaded and grabbed 2 libraries and said it would work after that. I went to minecraft and looked at the versions expecting there to be a 1.7.2 forge version (as there was in the versions file in the directory) but there was not. Ran the regular 1.7.2 and was all vanilla nothing of forge.

As in I went to the minecraft launcher and in edit profile/use version. There was no option to run 1.7.2 forge version so i just tried the regular 1.7.2 to make sure they weren't mixed or something somehow.
I obviously have checked the version list in and out. and i installed forge multiple times already, should i get the recommended version instead of the latest or something?

Did you select the Minecraft Forge 1.7.2 version inside of the launcher?
I did try to but there was no option for forge in the launcher

Yes, I installed forge with the launcher closed. How do I open the Forge install log?
