I just started Minecraft 1.8.9 for the first time (after a much out-of-date 1.5.2), and I was going to build a redstone contraption. I spawned in one of my 1.5.2 worlds, which had many mods installed. I then realized that I hadn't installed my mods in 1.8.9. Does this mean all my modded stuff is GONE FOREVER?!?!
I started the 1.5.2 launcher, and I got this crash report: Also, since I started 1.8.9, does this mean my 1.5.2 installation is gone? I'm super worried right now.

1.5.2 mods won't work in MC 1.8.9. You'll have to find 1.8.9 versions of those mods. Plus no guarantee that the old world will translate into 1.8.9.
Going directly from 1.5.2 to 1.8.9 is not a good idea (from what I've read). Its better to create a brand new 1.8.9 world with whatever 1.8.9 mods you want.
Okay. Is it possible to install 1.5.2 into a flash drive and run old worlds from that? I have a lot of stuff I'd like to still be able to view on those 1.5.2 worlds.
Depending on the launcher you use, make different Profiles (and game directories) for each version of MC you want to play. This avoids mixing versions. Check this.

Okay. I made a test one on my laptop, but once I confirm that it'll work, I'll do it on my desktop PC, on which the actual worlds are. I was going to ask if I could use the existing 1.5.2 directory, but then I remembered that it now belongs to 1.8.9.
