What I know: Sometimes the game will just say "Unable to start the Minecraft Runtime Environment. This is most likely caused by a corruption. Please try to reinstall minecraft." (usually happens after upcoming crash),if I can get past that then I get to the launcher,the launcher usually doesn't crash unless it just crashed a second ago,so the answer probably doesn't rest in that,the game will launch after pressing play,and if I'm lucky,(5/100 chance) it might play for a while,sometimes on modded games too (custom versions). It may get to maybe half a second of the window coming up and close instantly,the launcher almost always comes back up with the usual report screen "Minecraft has crashed".
Also for some reason the game thinks I'm on Windows 8 version,this isn't right,I'm on Windows 10 Pro,also I did see a installer specifically for Windows 10,should I be using that one instead?
It's not immediately obvious what the problem is.
1) Windows might have chosen to run the launcher in compatibility mode for some reason. You could try changing this, it's in a right-click menu -> Properties -> Compatibility (on Win7, not sure for 10)
The windows 10 specific thing is a different version of Minecraft. It's more like Minecraft PE.
2) The problem might be related to your use of Overwolf. 3rd party applications that inject themselves into other programs sometimes cause bugs.
If you have another crash that has something different from
# Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (25.25-b02 mixed mode windows-amd64 compressed oops)
# Problematic frame:
# v ~BufferBlob::native signature handlers
That might provide more of a hint.
