Hello everyone! I have some concerns regarding the use of the Sphax 512x texture pack. On 1.8.9, with optifine installed and 6 (out of 8) gigs of RAM dedicated to the game, I cannot run this resolution.
However, I do not think this is an issue with my GTX 960. I can run sphax 256x with SEUS (Standard) at 60-90 fps. I know that 512x packs need a bunch of memory, but I also know that minecraft won't use more than 4 or 5 gigs of ram, or something like that.
I'm not sure as what other information to provide any one out there, but please do let me know if you need more information. Ideally, I'd like to be able to use this resolution, but if that would require a bunch of hardware upgrades, I don't mind settling with the 256x.
Then that's not really a "can't handle the pack" crash. Because the game usually crashes with rather distinctive errors if it can't handle a large pack.
The file is perfectly fine, having downloaded it 3 times now. According to the BDCraft website, some fault's on Mojang's part mean Sphax in 512x resolution works with linux only, or 16+ GB of ram. I guess I'll settle for 256x

The game reverts to the default texture pack.
So is there anything I could try to make it work?

Curse PremiumNothing really other than getting a lower version of that texture pack.
