I have allocated 4 gbs of ram (which should be much more than I need) and with Optifine I only average about 50 fps. I know that the graphics card is not very good, but with an old macbook pro with a 3rd gen i5 and 4 gbs of ram i could get over 200 fps with Optifine at times. I have the latest java version (8u71), but when I log onto badlion it says install 64 bit java to improve performance. I am still getting used to windows, so does anyone have any advice that I could try to improve minecraft's performance on laptop? All help is appreciated

Moderatormore ram does not equal more fps, in fact allocating too much can have detrimental effects.
just installing optifine will not really increase fps either, you need to set it up correctly to get the most out of it
