So I like playing Minecraft Beta and Alpha for fun and nostalgia, but my skin never shows up on those versions. This may be intentional, but is there a way to make it show up? The Minecraft launcher allows me to play Beta and Alpha, and I very much love to do so, I'd just like to look unique during it.
Also I don't think it helps much, but I play Beta 1.3_01 and Alpha 1.2.6. Any help would be much appreciated ^v^
No. Somewhat old versions used an older skin server that was decommissioned due to a security vulnerability and the oldest versions (maybe the ones you are trying to use) didn't even support skins at all.
Also, versions since Alpha 1.2.2 support texture packs so you don't need to directly modify the files in the jar (which also requires messing around with renaming the jar and json files so the launcher doesn't overwrite them):
Note that texture packs are not the same as resource packs, as used in versions since 1.6; the link above tells you how you can make one. Also, skins must be in the pre-1.8 format if used in texture packs or in the jar in versions prior to 1.8 (64x32 pixels, no second layers except for the head and left arms and legs will be the same as the right side in 1.8); see the first link above for details on the differences (at the simplest you can just edit the skin file to cut off the lower half. If you have an Alex skin things are a bit more complicated since older versions only support 4 pixel wide arms). The skin file is also named and stored a bit differently from current versions; it is "char.png" and stored inside the "mob" folder.

The Wiki seems to indicate that you could change your skin online at least since early Alpha, possibly Classic ("custom skins released"):

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
