Whenever I try to play either 1.7.10 or 1.8.9 I get immense chunk rendering lag in Single Player. I try to explore a new part of the world and after getting to a new area it stops loading chunks for a solid 5 minutes, my PC specs are below
CPU: Intel i7-4790k OC to 4.7GHZ
RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance 8GBx4
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti SuperClocked ACX 2.0+

Try installing Optifine if you haven't already. Failing that, I guess you could try updating Java?

Curse PremiumTo much or to little memory allocated to Java can cause this problem. 2-4 Gb is the sweet spot.

That much is only needed if you have a lot of mods, Vanilla can run just fine with as little as 350MB of memory on most systems.

Curse PremiumI fixed this issue by going into NVIDIA control panel and allowing Minecraft Multi-Core Access, so stupid..
