My question is as the title states. I have both 1.8 and 1.7.10, each ARE modded BUT the key configs reset between each version which makes me think it's minecraft itself (unmodded code) that resets the key configs for each version. it's a pain to have to reset the key configs every time I change versions, that's why I want to know if there's a way to set individual key configs between versions.

so i've tried looking through and I cannot find even one key config file. this is odd as like I said, I change from 1.7.10 to 1.8 and the key configs reset to default. it's quite annoying that this happens.

so I would literally need to create a new .minecraft folder ( .minecraftclone for example) just to be able to have 2 independent options files?
now that I reread what you said before i'm understanding more. I had originally thought you meant there would be options for 1.7.10 in it's own profile folder, not directory.
I do appreciate the help, I wish it was simpler than that but I might just have to do what you suggest. still, I wish minecraft kept separate options files for each version.

game options are stored in each game directory you are using.
So if you have two profiles with two game directories, then you have two sets of settings.
I will check that, it's just odd that after setting my key configs they reset when switching profiles.

You aren't looking very hard.

you should be using different profile folders anyway, it prevents accidents with opening a world with the wrong version.
It avoids problems like having an option set to an invalid value (e.g. render distance of 32)
