Oh. Okay then - thank you for leading me through these files in any case, it's been very educational. Without the log, is there anything else I can do? Or should I just restore my old hard drive? If the latter, I would really appreciate instructions on how to copy my Minecraft world in case this happens again. Also, that copy and compress and send thing would be a bit much for me to try, I don't trust myself even with the most detailed instructions for something like that…again, I'm sorry for making this difficult. V_V Thank you again for all your help either way, though!
To copy a folder/file on OS X, just right-click it and select Duplicate. That'll create a copy of the file in the same directory of the original. If you want to compress a folder/file, right-click it and select Compress.
If you wanted to copy your Minecraft world so you can keep a backup in a different location, navigate to your minecraft folder at ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft. Keep in mind that ~/Library is hidden by default, so you'll have to either make it visible or navigate to it manually. (OR open the Minecraft launcher, click Edit Profile, and then click Open Game Dir. That will open your minecraft folder.) Once you're in your minecraft folder, enter the saves folder and find the world you want to copy. Right-click the folder and select Duplicate to make a copy of it, then move it to wherever you want to keep it.

Restoring a backup of your hard drive *should* restore the Minecraft world to that date, IF you told the backup to save everything on your hard drive, not just important system files. It would also, I would think, restore everything else on your hard drive to the date the backup was made, so think about that as well. Unless the restore function has an option to only restore certain files. Then you'd have to know which files to restore. So you're back to square one there.
Look at the two level.dat files, the one marked old, is it before the date of the crash? If so, rename the current level.dat to something like level.dat-bad and then copy the level.dat_old and rename the copy to level.dat and see if that works, it might.
I would really suggest getting to know how to make an archive and upload the archive of your world as previously suggested. The world save folder would be under the "saves" folder and it would have the name of your world as the title of the folder.
Here is a video on how to make archives on a mac, looks pretty simple:
If we had the world save, I bet it would be a simple matter to fix it, most likely an entity was corrupted or something.

Yes, it would restore everything else on my computer, and there's no way to only restore specific files, but I have preparations in place so nothing actually gets lost, stuff on flash drives and stuff, though it is of course a last resort (which it looks like we're on now). And both level.dat files were made when I was trying to figure out what was going on by rebooting the world several times, so they won't be helpful. I will take a look at the backup thing, though, I need to know how to do that, thank you.

That actually sounds simple enough…maybe I will try to compress the thing. I see the "Insert Minecraft World" option in this post thing, is that where I'd put it? Thank you so much!

No, that's just an option to share a world that's been uploaded to Curse. Make an account with Dropbox, Copy, Mediafire, or some other file sharing service and upload it there. Then post the link here for whoever it was that asked for it.
Keep in mind that if the world is 2 GB like you said (although it will be considerably less once it's been compressed), it might take an hour or two to upload.

With an Compress Programm the world will go down to 800-1000 MB. And that, with the right Internet Connection, will go faster the u think. (Ok with my slow 6000 line it will take 3-6 houers to upload 2 GB Files.
I think still its only a defect level.dat file and so the fix will only take some Kb to reupload.

That's what i said -- it will be considerably smaller once it's been compressed. But I doubt OP has business-class Internet. The upload will take some time.

My internet is pretty fast, and I've spent more time on uploading stuff than an hour (YouTube videos, specifically, with a program that basically does everything for me). The problem now is that I don't know how to upload the thing even if I do copy and compress it. You mentioned several possible programs…could I get some instructions, please? I could just restore my hard drive, but I really would rather not have to…
Once you compress your world folder, you will have a single file from that process. You need to upload that to a file sharing service. As mentioned, there are several, Dropbox (www.dropbox.com) and Mediafire (www.mediafire.com) are the two I have personal experience with. Both are pretty simple, you sign up for an account, which should be free, and then you will be given an option to upload files. It should be simple enough to do with either service, you pick the file, and hit the upload or share button. It will then upload and once it is done, you will be given a link to share for the download location. Post that link so we can grab the file and see what's wrong with it.

Alright. I will get right on that. It might take me a day or two…Thank you all so much for being so helpful.

Yep, seems to work perfectly, good job, Ritter. I don't have a copy of MC Edit here that can open those old save files, how soon we forget and move on, right?

Thank you so much! I downloaded it, now if you could please give me specific instructions on how to insert the fixed chunks and remove the old ones, I'd really appreciate it. You guys have brought me so close to fixing this thing without completely reverting my entire hard drive, I'd hate to break something at the last minute and ruin all your hard work.

Open the archive that Ritter_Kaldor uploaded, it has a few files in it. Go to the place on your hard drive where your world save folder is located. You should know how to get there by now. Under the world save folder is a folder called "region" open that and you should see the listing of all the files there, extract the files from the archive Ritter_Kaldor uploaded into the region folder under your world save folder. It should automatically replace the bad files that are there with the fixed ones from the archive. It will probably ask you if you want to replace the files, say yes to that.
