Now I'm really not a computer-guy but I was a little disappointed to find that minecraft is only running at 30 fps and even dipping lower than that regularly. I expected much better performance. I was hoping for a steady 60fps. Is that to be expected with the specs I have or is there possibly something I'm doing wrong? If any extra info is needed please let me know. Thanks for your help!
I'm very certain this is the problem. I tried to add it in the nvidia control panel but minecraft is still defaulting to the integrated intel gpu. I'm doing some research on how to force it to use the graphics card. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
EDIT: I opended it with the nvidia and I'm seeing a huge boost in performance. I'm now getting a steady 60fps. It doesn't seem to want to go higher than that and I have the fps cap set to 120. So I'm not sure if that's the limitation of the graphics card or if there is a setting I can change. Should my specs allow greater than 60 fps? I'll keep playing with it but thanks again for your help!

Support this if you're interested in reducing lag whilst simultaneously expanding the game.

you're welcome, try disabling V-sync on minecraft and in NVIDIA control panel, if you have it on
