Ok if your getting the socket error like me heres what you do.
Either
.Reinstall java (the latest one)
.Reinstall minecraft
.Open Command Prompt (search it in the start menu) and type the command netsh winsock reset This will reset the connections it will not remove any files!
IF ALL ELSE FAILS (like me none of these methods worked above but they work for alot of people)
.Do a Clean Reset of minecraft.
To do this open up your hard drive and search for the keyword "Minecraft" Delete everything with the word minecraft in it
(Take into consideration other games that use minecraft features dont delete those)
. Next Goto Minecraft.net and download the MSI installer! it should say repair or delete. click delete and then reopen it and it will do the installing process. If it doesnt say repair or delete its fine it will just install the game.
.For me once it installed it said files were corrupt/ it might not for you. (If it didnt try logging in again... if it still gets the error repeat the last steps but dont log in)
.Next goto programs x86
.Find the minecraft folder
.Then Click Game
.THEN OPEN THE LAUNCER
. Then log in!
Then your done! enjoy your minecraft. If this doesnt work im sorry you will have to keep searching!

Never heard of this issue, but then I don't use the Mojang launcher either, it might be a launcher-specific issue.
