This might sound dumb but I've been using optifine for ages now and a couple months ago I suddenly started getting horrible server lag. For example, when I join a server it takes a couple minutes to load, there's a horrible delay when placing things or right clicking anything, and other players will sit frozen for awhile and then suddenly teleport somewhere( this happens on every server). I tried many things such as re installing minecraft, restarting my computer, changing my settings, after a while I finally took off optifine(1.8) and everything worked fine, apart from super low fps, all of the delays stopped and everything. When I use Optifine 1.7.10 however everything runs fine.If I don't use optifine though I get under 20 fps most of the time.
To sum it up, optifine 1.8 = server lag. No optfine = fps lag but no server lag. Optifine 1.7 and under = no server lag
