My children go 2 new HP laptops. When they play minecraft and either of them open to LAN, the other can see the LAN world, but the "failed to connect to server...connections timed out" error pops up. I have been working on this all day. I think I have exhausted all of the fixes I can find. I will list everything I have done so far.
1. They both have the latest minecraft version (1.8.8) and launcher version (1.6.48_
2. They are both running the same and latest versions of Java. All older versions have been deleted.
3. Their windows firewalls are off. (Even if on, I have enabled every Java and Minecraft anything to go through)
4. I have checked their IP's and they are not the same.
5. They are on the same wireless network.
6. I have tried direct connect with typing their IP address:port number
Since both can see the LAN world of the other, that implies that certain things are working.
Java can transmit onto the network.
Java can receive from the network.
BUT the lan game announcements are multicast, so they are kind of special.
There's a chance that this is caused by the way your wireless router is setup. I'm not sure if the game announcements working rules this out. These routers can be configured to prevent client to client communication, but only to allow clients to talk to the internet. (This can be called "wireless isolation" but the feature can have other names)
Otherwise I would still suspect the firewall which might be either blocking the inbound packets or blocking minecraft from opening a listening socket. (Usually that actually causes minecraft to fail)

What else is there to do to fix this?
Thanks in advance for your time and help!!!!!
Mom of Minecraft playing family!!!
Are they using two separate Minecraft account? Using one account won't work.
1| if (signature = true) {
2| document.write("Wassup?");
3| }
4| else {
5| document.write("404: signature not found");
6| }
Yes, they both have their own accounts.
Thanks for the reply though! Any other suggestions?
